The Union Metal Elixir is a product designed specifically for the modern woodworker using antique or new tools. The Elixir is a micro-emulsion of oil and wax in a cyclic carrier that is about half as thin as water. During application the Elixir spreads across the surface and penetrates the porous metal surfaces, filling the pores with the protective wax. After spreading all over the tool and wiping it down with a clean dry cloth, the carrier will slowly evaporate, leaving a dry protected tool. This product was developed for long lasting protection of antique planes that were made from porous metals. However, it does work very well on new tools made from ductile iron or any other non-porous metals - you may just have to re-apply a little more often.

Both of the pictured planes were stored over 90 days in a non temperature controlled shop. Temperatures ranged from 60F to 90F. Humidity between 70% & 85%. And yes, the Metal Elixir™ is the one on the right!
